Foster Parents Accused of Abusing Adopted Children

Two former foster parents who had been licensed by the state, are accused of abusing their adopted children.

Dawnyle Kaestner and Darren Durham have been indicted on several felony counts.

The couple are charged with, among other things, giving Percocet to one of their children, denying medical care for another, and possession of methamphetamine.

The grand jury indicted them on June 3 and arrested six days later.

They were licensed by the Department of Human Services from 2001-2013 and adopted four children before their license was revoked.

The couple's four children have been taken into protective custody.

Detectives in the child abuse unit of the Washington County Sheriff's Office believes there may be other victims out there.

During the time they were licensed, the couple had more than 50 children in their home.

This is the latest black eye for DHS.

Since last year, the agency has been swept up in a series of controversies including top officials being replaced, a federal probe into how money was spent, a state review of how the agency operates, and a recent report from the federal government that found numerous shortcomings.
