'High Visibility DUI Patrols' Will Target Impaired Oregon Drivers

The enforcement patrols are part of an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related collisions, deaths, and injuries in Washington County.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR — The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be stepping up their efforts to reduce impaired driving this Super Bowl weekend and through the end of February. Officials say the high visibility enforcement patrols are part of an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related collisions, deaths and injuries in Washington County. Officials warn that impaired driving includes prescription drugs and marijuana.

"On average, a driving under the influence arrest costs $10,000 in attorney fees, fines, court costs, lost time at work, higher insurance rates, car towing and repairs, and more," Washington County Sheriff's Office officials said in a statement.

Drivers are encouraged to designate a driver, use alternative methods of transportation to get home and download NHTSA's SaferRide Mobile App for free. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds everyone to report suspected drunken driving by calling 911.
