Highway 26 Closed In Both Directions Following 2-Car Crash Outside Banks

Downed power lines along Highway 26 has closed the busy roadway while PGE crews work on a fix. Detours will likely be in place until 8 p.m.

BANKS, OR — A two-car crash outside the city of Banks Monday afternoon has closed Highway 26 in both directions at Northwest Banks Road, according to Washington County Sheriff's officials.

Deputy Shannon Wilde told Patch it's unclear how the accident came to pass, but it appears as though one car hit a power pole and knocked down power lines, causing another car to hit the power lines and ignite a brush fire off the highway. However, no injuries were reported, Wilde said.

Wilde said PGE expects Highway 26 to remain closed in both directions until at least 8 p.m. Commuters will be detoured around the accident zone from Northwest Wilson River Highway on the east and Highway 47 on the west.
