Hillsboro Fire Promotes Five, Swears in Rookie

Two are promoted to chief. Two are made engineers. One makes lieutenant.

Work hard at the Hillsboro Fire Department and eventually you will be rewarded. That was the lesson for five veterans of the department.

Jeff Gurske, an 11-year-veteran of the department who has spent the past two years as captain in the training division, is the new Division Chief of Training. He will have oversight of all training for department personnel.

Mark Gregg, a lieutenant for the past eight years who has been with the department since 1990, has been made Battalion Chief. He will receive a staff position and will also serve in an operational role supervising the department's six companies of firefighters.

Ben Tanner has been promoted to Lieutenant. Tanner has been an Engineer for six years and with Hillsboro Fire Department for eleven years. He will now lead an engine company responding to all types of emergency incidents.

Sam Scott and Ryan Grimaldi have both been promoted to the position of Engineer who are trained to operate the department's fire engines and ladder trucks. Scott has served as Firefighter for ten years and Grimaldi for six years. Grimaldi is also a paramedic.

After successfully completing one year of training as a probationary firefighter, Marco Hernandez received his badge as a Firefighter. Hernandez is also a paramedic.

"We congratulate and recognize these members for their hard work and dedication to the fire service," said Chief Scott Magers. "Through their accomplishments, we grow as a department and in the delivery of public safety".
