Hillsboro Firefighter Of The Year Honored
Lieutenant Chad Carey, an 18-year-veteran, was honored by the American Legion.
Lieutenant Chad Carey is an 18-year veteran of the Hillsboro Fire Department. On Tuesday night, he was honored for his "dedication to the community and his commitment to public safety" at a dinner hosted by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.
More than 50 people were there as Carey was honored as the Hillsboro Firefighter of the Year.

"Lieutenant Carey exemplifies the type of firefighter we want in leadership roles--competent, compassionate, and resourceful," said Fire Chief Scott Magers. "When, as an incident commander, I see Chad and his engine company drive up to an emergency scene, I know we'll get this under control quickly."
American Legion Post Commander Bob Gnos presented Carey with a plaque.

The honor is bestowed on one person each year. Hillsboro firefighters nominate a small ballot of candidates for the award and all members of the local firefighters union vote to select the winner.
