Hillsboro Food Co-op Continues To Grow, Searches For Location

Inching closer to its goal of establishing a locally owned and operated food co-op, the Hillsboro Food Co-op now exceeds 300 member-owners.

HILLSBORO, OR - From Hillsboro Food Co-Op: More than 300 individuals have already shown their support for opening a community-owned grocery store in Downtown Hillsboro by making a one-time investment to purchase an equity share.

This is the first significant milestone in the consumer cooperative’s development and helps launch the business into the feasibility and planning phase, based on nationally accepted food co-op development model.

“We are excited to continue growing membership,” says Hillsboro Food Co-op Board Member, Brandon Iwasaki, “but we are equally excited about the upcoming projects that will create a stable foundation to support quick growth in the coming years – brand development, a website update, a refresh to our outreach booth, and a market study.”

The next ownership milestone, 500 member-owners, will lead to the highly anticipated steps of siting the store and seeking investments.

Hillsboro Food Co-op’s board of directors have already begun conversations with lenders and to investigate location options guided by recommendations from the recent Grocery Retail Market Analysis contracted by the City of Hillsboro.
