Hillsboro Man Who Killed Mother's Boyfriend Gets 12 Years

Timothy Lee Simpkins received the sentence as part of a plea deal.

A 22-year-old from Hillsboro who took a plea after being charged with murder for killing his mother's boyfriend received a 12-year prison sentence for what he did.

Timothy Lee Simpkins received the sentence Thursday in Washington County Court in return for his decision to plead guilty to manslaughter.

It was December 21, 2015 and Simpkins was at the home he shared with his mother and her boyfriend, Thomas Wearing. The two men had been in a dispute for some time though it's not what set it off that day.

What's known is that Simpkins went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed Wearing to death.
