Hillsboro Police K9 Dies After Car Crash: Police

Hillsboro police officer Cory Zaugg and his K9 partner Billy were struck while driving a patrol car on TV Highway Monday night.

HILLSBORO, OR — The Hillsboro Police Department lost one of its own Monday: K9 Billy was killed when he and his partner, Officer Cory Zaugg, were hit by an eastbound vehicle on the Tualatin Valley Highway, near Southeast Century Boulevard.

According to police spokesman Lt. Henry Reimann, Zaugg and Billy were traveling west on TV Highway toward Southeast Century Boulevard just after 10:30 p.m. Dec. 4 when an eastbound car turned left through the intersection, striking Zaugg's patrol vehicle.

Zaugg sustained minor injuries in the crash, but Billy's injuries were so severe, Reimann said, the department had to put him down.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle remained at the scene, Reimann said, adding that no citations have been issued at this time.

Washington County's Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) investigated the collision.
