Man Busted for Stealing from Unlocked Cars

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says that some property has been returned to its owners.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's office arrested a man they say had entered several unlocked vehicles and stolen valuables. Some of the property has now been returned.

The sheriff's office says that at 8:20 on Monday morning, a concerned citizen called non-emergency dispatch to report a man slumped over the wheel of a vehicle.

Deputies arrived to find 27-year-old Dylan Goetz. They noticed property in the vehicles that made them suspicious. They determined Goetz had dozens of unlocked cars over the past two days to steal valuables.

He is charged with theft and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. The sheriff's office says that more charges are likely.

  • Always lock your vehicle;
  • Don't leave your identification, wallet, check book or credit cards in your car;
  • Never leave valuables in plain sight;
