National Guardsman With Oregon Ties Dies in Iraq
Defense Department says the death of First Lieutenant David Bauders was not combat-related.

A National Guardsman who graduated from Forest Grove High School and the University of Portland died in Iraq Friday, according the Department of Defense.
First Lieutenant David Bauders died at Al Asad Air Base.
His death was not combat-related, the Pentagon said.

Bauders was assigned to the Washington State National Guard's 176th Engineer Company based in Snohomish.
They had been deployed to Iraq and Kuwait since last month working on construction projects.

Lauders has also been working as a trooper for the Washington State Patrol, assigned to North Seattle and King County.
He was single and did not have children,
