New Hillsboro Census Numbers Paint Picture of Growing City

"Hillsboro has earned a reputation as a highly-desirable place to live," Mayor Jerry Willey tells Patch.

Hillsboro is doing something right.

New numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the city has cracked the 100,000 mark - joining Portland, Eugene, Salem, and Gresham.

“Hillsboro has earned a reputation as a highly-desirable place to live and a strategic place to do business," Mayor Jerry Wiley told Patch.

"This has led to many new employment opportunities and an increased demand for housing, transportation, and other services that impact our residents’ quality of life."

By the end of 2015, Hillsboro's population had reached 102,347, according to the estimate released Thursday.

That's an increase of 3,000 from 2014 and nearly 11,000 from the last full census in 2010 when the population of 91,611.

"As we welcome new neighbors in Orenco Station, Downtown Hillsboro, AmberGlen, and South Hillsboro, the City of Hillsboro is working to be cost efficient in how we implement the Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan, which includes new housing options, expanded road capacity, and a 50-year water supply," Mayor Willey added.
