'Speed A Factor' In Fatal North Plains Car Crash Saturday, Police Say
Richard Owens, 58, was killed when he reportedly lost control of his Volkswagen Jetta and drove into a power pole.
NORTH PLAINS, OR — Washington County Sheriff's officials say speed was a contributing factor in a car crash that killed a 58-year-old North Plains man Saturday afternoon.
Around 4:45 p.m. Sept. 16, Richard Owens was reportedly driving his 2000 Volkswagen Jetta south when he lost controlled and hit a power pole near Northwest Dairy Creek Road and Northwest Oliver Hill Road. Attempts to save Owens were unsuccessful and he died at the scene, police said.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) will perform an investigation, but police say preliminary evidence suggests excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
