Suspect Bites Off Tip Of Deputy's Index Finger: Washington County Sheriff's Office

The deputy lost the tip of his finger during an early morning confrontation in Aloha with Erik Rodriguez-Reyes, sheriff's officials said.

ALOHA, OR — During an altercation with Washington County Sheriff's deputies early Monday, an Aloha man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend bit off the tip of one deputy's index finger.

Erik Antonio Rodriguez-Reyes, 24, was lodged at the Washington County Jail on several charges, including harassment, assault, kidnapping, coercion, assaulting a public safety officer, and resisting arrest. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Rodriguez-Reyes' father, Francisco Rodriguez-Estrada, 42, was also arrested and charged with harassment, interfering with a peace officer, and resisting arrest. His booking information was unavailable at the time of this writing.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a domestic disturbance at the Belleau Woods Apartments, 14960 S.W. Tracy Ann Ct. in the unincorporated Washington County community of Aloha, around 2:45 a.m. Oct. 23. It was the deputies' understanding that Rodriguez-Reyes was assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, police said.

Shortly following the deputies' arrival to the property, several uncooperative people at the apartment began an altercation with officers attempting to arrest Rodriguez-Reyes. During this altercation, Rodriguez-Reyes bit two deputies, "severing the tip of one deputy's index finger," police said.

The unnamed deputy was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, police said, noting Rodriguez-Reyes' girlfriend also suffered minor injuries.
