Washington County Road Safety: $1.5 Million For Improvements

Nine Washington County roads needing safety improvements will receive the upgrades they need, the county announced Monday. The county will use $1.5 million that the federal government passed on to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The money will be used to provide safety improvements to help reduce crashes, the county said

Select Washington County roads will have rumble strips, traffic delineators and/or reflective sign upgrades installed starting this month.

The roads are:

• Cornelius Pass Road - Rumble strips
• Cornelius-Schefflin Road/Scotch Church Road - Rumble strips and reflective sign upgrade
• Germantown Road - Rumble strips
• Glencoe Road - Rumble strips
• Golf Course Road - Rumble strips
• Grabhorn Road - Reflective sign upgrade
• Johnson School Road - Traffic delineators and reflective sign upgrade
• River Road - Reflective sign upgrade
• Scholls Sherwood Road - Rumble strips

"Centerline rumble strips are a cost-effective way to deter traffic crashes caused by drifting into oncoming traffic," says Melissa Norman, traffic analyst, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation. "Reflective delineators create a visual barrier to reduce collisions in poor visibility conditions.

"Reflective signs alert nighttime drivers to curves and other road changes."
