Washington County Time Capsule Unearthed

What a difference 26 years makes. Or doesn't.

It's never too late.

That's the lesson learned this week when around 50 people gathered at the Washington County Public Services Building to open a time capsule that had been buried in 1990.

The capsule, which was supposed to have been opened back in 2010, was unearthed as the county gets ready for a comprehensive seismic retrofit.

"Time capsules are a bit unique these days so we're really looking forward to this opportunity," said County Chairman Andy Duyck before the ceremony.

The capsule contained a pair of deteriorating Nike Air Jordans, menus from local restaurants, some newspapers, a TV Guide with Oprah on the cover, some VHS tapes, and essays written by local students on the topic of "What three things would you like to see changed by the year 2010?"
