Lake Oswego Drivers May Be Seeing Some Road Relief

Clackamas County is getting ready to ask voters whether they want to find the money to pay for needed road repairs.

Oregon City drivers know that Clackamas County has road problems.

More than half of the 1,400 miles of road maintained by the county are considered fair or poor. It makes driving less than fun.

The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners knows how bad it can be. What they want to know is it bad enough that the residents are willing to open up their wallets to help fix the problem.

The commissioners voted 4-0 (one commissioner, Martha Schrader, was at a conference) to out the question to the ballot when residents vote May 17.

The question will be: do voters want the county to explore methods of funding road repair?

If the voters say yes, the county will then have to develop a plan to present to the voters to consider in the November 8 election.

Possibilities include a gas tax and a registration fee for vehicles.

Whatever the plan, one thing is for sure: it will only be in effect for a limited number of years.
