Lake Oswego Police Hunt Thieves

Police say there has been a large number of thefts from unlocked vehicles.

Lake Oswego Police are warning people to make sure they lock their vehicles. There have been a large number of thefts recently from unlocked vehicles.

On Feb. 14, someone left the Zupan's Market on Boones Ferry Road and saw a man standing next to his car in the parking lot. The man quickly drove off in a black Jeep Rubicon with someone else in the passenger seat.

Later that day, the thief used the victim's credit cards at several area stores.

On Monday, Feb. 20, Lake Oswego Police were tipped off by their colleagues in Tualatin that a black Jeep Rubicon had been seen in the parking lot of the 24-Hour Fitness on McEwan Road. A man and woman were spotted looking into cars. They were chased away and sped off in the Jeep.

Tualatin Police told Lake Oswego the jeep was headed in their direction.

Six minutes later, the jeep was spotted in Lake Oswego.

Officers attempted to stop it on Childs Road at Stafford Road. The jeep initially pulled to the side of the road and stopped momentarily, before driving off at a high rate of speed. The officers pursued the vehicle into and through parts of West Linn, and then back into Lake Oswego, before they stopped the pursuit due to the suspect driving recklessly.

The jeep was last seen driving northbound on State Street from D Avenue.

Lake Oswego Police say the recent string of thefts from unlocked vehicles should serve as a reminder to always lock your car.
