Lake Oswego Schools Considering Expanding Spanish Immersion

Wouldn't happen next year but being considered for down the road.

The Lake Oswego School Board, hearing about the success of the Spanish language immersion program, is considering expanding it.

The possibility came up during the board's meeting Monday night.

They heard a presentation from Joe Morelock, the district's assistant superintendent for academics and student services.

He told the board that the district more than three applications for every available slot.

District Spokeswoman Nancy Duin said the discussion was preliminary and there would be no changes for the coming school year.

"There are a lot of factors, including current elementary school capacity, pending decisions regarding facility improvements, the permitting process for temporary classrooms (if the board decided to go that direction), staffing, the possibility of adding other languages or programs instead," Duin told Patch.
