Nebraska Republican Primary Results: Trump Wins

Donald Trump continues his march toward 1,237.

Another day, another win for Donald Trump.

Nebraska Republicans gave their vote to Trump, giving him all of the state's 36 delegates.

With 99 percent of the vote counted, Trump had 61.4 percent to Cruz's 18.5 percent. Kasich was in third with 11.4 percent.

There was some potentially bad news for the Republicans. Exit polls showed that there is still a wide split in the Republican Party.

CNN reports that only three percent of those polled said the party was unified. And while 51 percent said they thought it would be united by the election in November, 45 percent said they thought that would not happen.

There was a little drama earlier in the day when Ted Cruz emerged from a brief silence to appear to throw some cold water on Trump.

According to The Hill, the Texas Senator told Glenn Beck that while he does not expect to win the Nebraska Primary, if that were to happen, he would reconsider his decision to suspend his campaign.

"If that changes, we will certainly respond accordingly," he told Beck.

He did say, though, that he would not consider a third-party race.

Cruz had hoped to do well in Nebraska, using Indiana as a springboard.

Unfortunately, for him, he lost and suspended his campaign that night.

With wins in West Virginia and Nebraska, Trump moves closer to the needed 1,237 delegates he needs to get nominated on the first ballot.

He was in Omaha for a rally on Friday where he received the endorsement of the state's governor, Pete Ricketts.

Trump has not always been a fan of Ricketts's family who also own the Chicago Cubs and helped fund a Super-PAC that took out ads against the now presumptive candidate.

When Trump first the Ricketts family would be spending against him in February, he tweeted out what seemed to be a threat.

He followed that up with accusations that the family was doing a very bad job of running the Cubs who, as of Monday, had the best record in baseball.

While Trump had the backing of Governor Ricketts, his support was not universal among the state's elected officials.

Senator Ben Sasse, a freshman and a Republican, was one of the earliest to come out against Trump.

The lack of a contest in Nebraska has the state conserving moving their primary earlier in the season next time around, the Associated Press reports.

The last time the contest had not been decided by Nebraska was 1968 when Richard Nixon won the nomination.

It will be only Republicans voting in Nebraska on Tuesday.

The Democrats had their race in March. Bernie Sanders won by just over 14 percent.
