Suspects Identified in Robbery and Chase that Ended in Lake Oswego

Josh Luther, the man who was shot by an officer, was released from the hospital Sunday and moved to Washington County Jail.

The man who police say robbed the Aladdin Inn before leading police on a chief through several cities, firing at them along the way before being shot himself, has been identified as Josh Luther.

Police say that Luther was released from Oregon Health Sciences University hospital where he was treated after being struck during a shootout with a police officer from Tigard. Luther was booked into Washington County Jail and charged with attempted aggravated murder.

They also said that Luther's wife, 28-year-old Michelle Renee Luther, was driving the white van that her husband was in. She is under arrest and charged with aggravated attempted murder.

The incident started just before 10:30 Tuesday morning when Portland Police received a call that there had been a robbery at the Aladdin Inn and the suspect fled in a white van. The man was then spotted at the Shell Gas Station on Pacific Highway near 69th Avenue in Tigard.

Officers from Portland and Tigard tried to stop the vehicle as it left the gas station but the Luthers would not stop. Police say the couple then led them on a maze of routes through Tigard, Tualatin, and Lake Oswego. During the chase, Luther continued to fire shots at police who were in pursuit, say police.

The Luthers finally stopped the vehicle and Josh Luther fled the van, carrying weapons. Several Tigard officers continued the chase on foot. During that time, a Tigard officer shot the suspect who was then transported to Oregon Health Sciences University hospital.

Meanwhile, other officers searched the white van the man had been driving and discovered Michelle Luther and three children. None had been harmed. She was taken into custody.

The Washington County Major Crimes unit is investigating the officer-involved shooting and related incidents.
