1. Medford to discuss data centers at Wednesday study session (kobi5.com) — Medford's City Council and Planning Commission will hold a joint study session Wednesday at the Medford Police Department to talk about how, where, and whether to limit future data centers in town. There are no current applications, but Interim City Manager John Vial says officials want clear direction on zoning and building standards before any proposals arrive, since the issue is drawing strong public interest.
2. Nearly half-dozen illicit massage shops close in Southern Oregon amid crackdown (rv-times.com) — Several Medford massage businesses have been shut down or cited this summer as state regulators crack down on unlicensed shops and alleged sexual services. Three Medford locations face hefty fines, public health warning placards, and apparent closures, while officials say enforcement and community reporting are ramping up across Southern Oregon to combat illicit massage businesses and potential trafficking.
3. Medford's Womankind exhibit pairs art with giving (ijpr.org) — Medford residents can visit the Womankind exhibit at Rogue Gallery & Art Center through October 30, featuring work by 25 regional women artists. Curator Beca Blake and artist Abby Lazerow explain how the show pairs ambitious contemporary art with a drive for donated hygiene products supporting a local domestic violence shelter, turning gallery visits into hands-on community support.
4. Case against local ICE protester dismissed (kobi5.com) — A federal citation against a local activist tied to the Medford ICE facility has been dropped, ending months of uncertainty for the Shady Cove resident. She'd been accused of altering federal property after briefly placing a trail camera near the building, but prosecutors dismissed the case, and she says she'll continue participating in immigration-related protests in the Medford area.
