43 Traffic Stops Made During Safety Operation In Oregon City Aug. 16
Oregon City officers issued more than 60 citations to drivers for violations near Carnegie Park during the four-hour sting, police said.

OREGON CITY, OR — A traffic safety operation in Oregon City Wednesday netted 43 police stops, according to Oregon City police officials. The four-hour operation was conducted with help from the Canby Police Department as was meant to "educate drivers and help raise awareness of the pedestrian right-of-way laws," police said.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16, Oregon City police used a pedestrian decoy at the intersection of Seventh Street and John Adams Street, near Carnegie Park, while other officers watched for traffic violations and stopped offenders.
Of the 43 drivers stopped, police issued the following citations:

- 14 citations for failing to stop or remained stopped for a pedestrian;
- 18 citations for driving while using a mobile communications device;
- Eight citations for driving without insurance;
- Two citations for driving with a suspended license;
- One citation for driving without a license at all;
- Five citations for not wearing seatbelt; and
- Seven citations for various other violations.
Only three warnings were given during the operation, police said.
Police say they chose that specific intersection — which already has a flashing pedestrian crosswalk — because of the typically heavy foot traffic along Seventh Street near the Oregon City Public Library, located at 606 John Adams St.
