1. National Park Service site in Oregon City will close for extended period during renovation (hereisoregon.com) — A major change is coming for Oregon City's McLoughlin House, which will close for about 15 months starting around Dec. 5 for a $1.7 million stabilization and earthquake‑resilience project. Until then, locals can still visit Fridays and Saturdays for free hourly tours from the Barclay House, and the visitor center will reopen in February even while construction continues.
2. Oregon City's Lila Rollins wins National American Miss Oregon Teen pageant (youroregonnews.com) — An Oregon City teen, Lila Rollins, has just been crowned National American Miss Oregon Teen after only her second pageant, and she's now preparing to represent the state at nationals in Orlando this November. The Clackamas Community College–bound student balances local volunteer work, a job at the West Linn library, and fundraising to cover the costs of competing on the national stage.
3. Oregon Arts Commission Awards $150,000 in Arts Learning Grants to 15 Organizations Statewide (cascadeae.com) — Oregon City's Parrott Creek Child & Family Services is one of 15 groups statewide receiving a $10,000 Oregon Arts Commission Arts Learning grant, supporting its Tilt/Shift photography program for at‑risk youth. The funding will help expand creative, therapeutic photo‑based learning at the local residential facility while similar grants bolster K‑12 arts education from Pendleton to Newport and Portland.
4. Amtrak's new Airo train makes debut in Eugene, offering glimpse of the future (newsbreak.com) — New Amtrak Airo trains are about to start serving the Cascades route, meaning Oregon City riders will soon see roomier, tech‑friendly cars with nearly double the seating capacity. The modern fleet begins rolling this week between Eugene, Oregon City, Portland and on to Vancouver, B.C., promising a more comfortable alternative to driving the congested I‑5 corridor.
