Canby Man Arrested, Reportedly Told Witnesses He Wanted Police to Shoot Him
Following Monday's arrest, Canby resident Justin Godsy is reportedly getting a mental health evaluation before any charges are filed.

HAPPY VALLEY, OR — Clackamas County deputies on Monday detained a Canby man who allegedly tried to attack an officer because, according to witnesses, he wanted the police to shoot him.
Justin Godsy, 27, was placed on a Peace Officer's Hold and taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation following an afternoon of erratic activity, police said.
Around 6:45 p.m. May 8, Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported car break-in at a Wal Mart parking lot located at 10000 S.E. 82nd Ave. near Happy Valley. The first deputy to arrive on-scene reportedly found Godsy on the ground following a possible physical altercation with witnesses to the break-in.

One of the witnesses reportedly told the deputy that Godsy had said he planned to get police to shoot him by attacking an officer — which he did moments later.
Having been warned of the potential for Godsy to attack, the deputy used his taser to stop Godsy in the act. He was taken into custody shortly after with help from Milwaukie police.

After officers identified Godsy, they learned that his family had called police earlier in the day to report him as suicidal and potentially homicidal. Deputies who responded to the initial call could not find Godsy at that time, police said.
Pending charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, and attempted assault on a public safety officer have been referred to the Clackamas County District Attorney, police said.
