Clackamas County Sheriff Increases DUII Patrols Through New Year

Sheriff's officials hope to help prevent avoidable traffic fatalities through the holiday season.

From Clackamas County Sheriff's Office: Wednesday, Dec. 13 through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is increasing patrols — with an emphasis on reducing impaired-driver crashes.

The goal of these extra patrols: zero traffic fatalities during this year's holiday celebration.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every day 28 people lose their lives to alcohol-related traffic crashes. This staggering statistic amounts to one alcohol-impaired traffic fatality every 53 minutes. This makes the chance of a person being involved in an alcohol-related crash 1 in 3 through a lifetime.

The Sheriff's Office wants to help avoid these completely preventable tragedies this holiday season.

The Sheriff's Office reminds the public that everyone can play a role in preventing impaired drivers. If you or those around you drink alcohol and/or consume other impairing substances — including marijuana — please make responsible transportation plans. And if you witness impaired driving, don't hesitate to report it to your local authorities — it may save a life.
