Clackamas Fire District #1 To Begin Construction On New Fleet and Logistics Facility
The groundbreaking ceremony July 6 is particularly exciting for District crews that have worked for years in a space too tight for comfort.

CLACKAMAS, OR — Clackamas Fire District #1 on Wednesday announced the date of its ground breaking ceremony for its new Fleet and Logistics Center in Clackamas.
At 10 a.m. July 6, Fire District officials will gather to celebrate beginning construction on its newest facility at 16170 S.E. 130th Ave. Paid for by a $29 million general obligation bond passed by county voters in 2015, the new Fleet and Logistics Center will be a boon for Fire District crews who've had to manage with a much smaller space for years.
The district's fleet maintenance and logistics crews since 2011 have been working in a 7,000-square-foot space, which still had to spread out equipment and supplies across seven different locations on the property or at other Fire District-owned property to the south, according to Fire District spokesman Steve Hoffeditz.

The new building, coming in at a much larger 20,000 square feet, will provide space enough for consolidated Logistics storage and proper indoor maintenance of the district's Fleet apparatus, as well as the fleets of other districts that contract with Clackamas, such as Canby Fire District #62, and the Gladstone and Lake Oswego fire departments. Fire District #1 oversees 20 other community fire stations already.
With only three available bays at its current location, mechanics were occasionally forced to work on fire trucks outside — which was particularly challenging during harsh weather in the summer and during the rainy season, Hoffeditz said.

The building's construction is expected to take 300 days, Hoffeditz said, but will provide space for the district's growth for many years to come.
