Clackamas Fire District, Oregon City to Receive New Fire Station by 2018

The new facility will replace Fire Station 16, which currently sitting next to Cooperstown Bar & Grill on Molalla Avenue.

OREGON CITY, OR – Clackamas Fire District #1 firefighters are getting a new fire station in Oregon City. Replacing the fire facility at 19375 Molalla Ave., which was built in the 1970s, Oregon City residents can expect the new Fire Station 16 facility to begin training firefighters and providing a base of support for emergency fire calls beginning mid-2018.

Designed by Portland-based firm Hennebery Eddy Architects, the new 12,000-square-foot facility will house up to eight firefighters, a battalion chief, and a new ladder truck. It will also support district-wide training activities.

"The Fire District is excited to be working with Hennebery Eddy Architects to design and construct our newest community fire station," Fire Chief Fred Charlton said in a statement. "This station is critically important to serving Oregon City and will provide highly trained firefighters and paramedics to answer the community's calls for help when they call 911."

According to Hennebery officials, the new station will be an efficient, flexible space that facilitates fast emergency response times and is adaptable to evolving firefighting protocols, staffing needs and technologies.

The facility will also meet modern energy efficiency standards as an enrollee in the Energy Trust of Oregon's Path to Net Zero program, which means Hennebery's Fire Station 16 will annually produce as much energy as it uses through the incorporation of energy-efficient envelope design, passive cooling, daylight harvesting, and photovoltaic renewable energy.

"Designing the new fire station is exciting and rewarding because a well-designed space creates an environment where the Clackamas Fire District can operate at peak performance, which in turn can provide faster response times and better protection and quality of life for the entire community," Hennebery Project Manager Jon McGrew said. "It's about much more than the design of the building itself –– it's about understanding and anticipating the long -term evolution of Oregon City to provide the best possible stewardship of the dollars provided by the Clackamas County taxpayers. We are very proud to be able to help facilitate this stewardship."
