Clackamas Firefighters To Conduct Training Saturday

During the training, which begins at 9 a.m., nearby residents can expect to see large columns of smoke as crews burn down a house.

CLACKAMAS, OR — Residents and commuters around Southeast 90th Avenue and Southeast Clackamas Road on Saturday can expect to see smoke and fire coming from a house on the corner by the Landscape East & West building beginning at 9 a.m.

Clackamas Fire District #1 on Wednesday announced it will conduct a residential fire exercise by literally burning down the house at 15547 S.E. 90th Ave. in Clackamas on Oct. 14. According to district spokesman Steve Hoffeditz, training firefighters under realistic conditions is the best way to ensure crews know what they're doing when a real emergency occurs.

Clackamas firefighters will reportedly practice firefighting techniques inside and outside the home, which will include working with water hoses and protecting against exposure.

Fire trucks and other firefighting equipment will move around the area during the training event, and additional crews will be on-hand to ensure the controlled blaze stays controlled.

Observers can expect to see the entire structure completely aflame around 12 p.m., Hoffeditz said. Nearby residents and businesses are encouraged to close their windows during this time to avoid any unwanted smoke infiltration.
