Damascus Man Arrested After Threatening Family With Ax, Police Say
Mario Reyes-Orozco allegedly threatened his family with an ax while on unidentified drugs, police say. A K9 assisted with his arrest.

DAMASCUS, OR — An allegedly drug-addled man wielding an ax was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a run-in with Clackamas County deputies and K9 officer Grimm, officials said.
Mario Ivan Reyes-Orozco, 35, has been lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, interfering with a police animal, and resisting arrest. His bail has been set at $47,500.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, deputies responding to a domestic disturbance in the 18000-block of Southeast Sunnyside Road in Damascus around 12:15 p.m. July 4 learned from Reyes-Orozco's family that he was on drugs and threatening the family with an ax.

After deputies were able to get the family out of the home, Reyes-Orozco locked all the doors and refused to come out, officials said, further arming himself with other weapons, including a fire poker.
Unable to reason with Reyes-Orozco, sheriff's officials deployed the county SWAT and Hostage Negotiations teams, which included K9 officer Grimm.

Grimm reportedly located Reyes-Orozco after SWAT made forced entry into the home, but Reyes-Orozco continued to refuse surrender, officials said, fighting off Grimm with a pipe until SWAT members took him into custody.
While Grimm is recovering from some swelling caused by getting hit with the pipe, officials said, Reyes-Orozco was treated for a dog bite.
