Family of Oregon City Man Badly Injured by Sneaker Wave Raising Money to Bring Him Home

Bill Hilbert, a Vietnam Veteran, was badly injured by a sneaker wave on a vacation in Hawaii. His family needs help to bring him home.

Bill Hilbert, an Oregon City resident and Vietnam Veteran, was badly injured by a sneaker wave on vacation in Hawaii.

So badly injured that his family is desperately trying to raise the money needed to get him back stateside.

"Bill has VA insurance but as of now they are telling us they won't cover Bill's transportation state side, and we are unsure to the degree of coverage for other expenses he will have," his son-in-law David Partridge, writes on a GoFundMe page the family has set up.

The family is looking to raise $100,000.

Of that, approximately $75,000 will go the cost of an air ambulance with other monies going to "ongoing medical expenses once he returns to the state, and modifcations to the house if needed."

As of Sunday morning, more than 250 people had donated a total of $27,110.

Partridge writes hat Bill has several facial fractures, a collapsed/punctured lung and internal bleeding.
