(UPDATED) Fire Damages North Clackamas School District Operations Building Tuesday
Clackamas Fire District #1 crews responded to the non-injury fire at the district's Facility Operations building around 8 p.m. March 21.

MILWAUKIE, OR – Clackamas Fire District firefighters responded to a fire at the North Clackamas School District Facility Operations building Tuesday night.
Around 8 p.m. March 21, CFD #1 crews arrived to a two-alarm fire at the district operations building, 12449 Fuller Rd. in Milwaukie.
Clackamas Fire Investigators Wednesday afternoon said the fire began when rising gasoline vapors from pressurized, portable fueling equipment contacted a gas ceiling furnace pilot light.

The building suffered mostly smoke damage, according to North Clackamas School District spokeswoman Cindy Quintanilla, with the fire primarily contained to the building's welding/workshop area. A firewall, investigators noted, protected the building's offices and carpentry area.
"It's not a total loss by any means, but there's a lot of cleanup," Quintanilla told Patch Wednesday morning.

The building housed staff offices and space for storing tools and general maintenance equipment, such as the district's trucks and tractors, she said.
Quintanilla estimates more than 15 people work out of the building, all of whom have now been relocated until the building can be used again. However, no timetable is currently available for when that might be.
No injuries were reported and only one worker was reportedly at the building when the fire started.
Quintanilla said the district has drafted a letter to parents and neighbors alerting them to what happened. The letter will be translated into four languages. Patch will link to the letter when it becomes available.
