Head-on Crash Kills Child, Injures Five Others

A man from Portland crossed into oncoming traffic causing the crash.

An eight-year-old boy is dead after a crash on Oregon 224, officials said Monday.

The boy was one five people in a 2008 Dodge Charger that was struck head-on by a 2003 Chrysler Sebring.

The Chrysler, driven by Joshua Richards of Portland, had veered off the road and then over-corrected, crossing into oncoming traffic, police said.

They say that the believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing.

Richards was taken to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge, Keith Pierce, was also brought to OHSU though with serious injuries.

His two adult passengers - Alex Daul of Portland and Mandy Alton of Oregon City - were also transported to OHSU with non-life threatening injuries.

An 11-year-old boy who was also in the car was found unconscious and unresponsive. He is also at OHSU with serious injuries.
