Judge Who Refused to Perform Same-Sex Weddings Indicted
Vance Day is accused of letting a felon have a gun.
A state judge in Salem who made headlines when he announced he would not perform weddings for same-sex couples has been indicted for twice giving a gun to felon. He is also charged with two counts of official misconduct.
Judge Vance Day is charged with helping Brian Shehan, a veteran, get a gun even though he knew Shehan was a felon who was not allowed to be near guns let alone have one.
This is believed to be the first time that a sitting judge in Oregon has been indicted.

Day was the subject of headlines last year when he refused to perform weddings for same-sex couples. The Oregon Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability found that Day's staff members were told to inform people requesting he perform their wedding that they'd have to check the judge's schedule.
If it turned out the couple was gay, they would be told the judge was unavailable.

The commission recommended earlier this year that Day be ousted from the bench, a move he is fighting. A hearing is scheduled for April.
