Landlord Who Killed Tenant Cleared by Grand Jury

A landlord who killed his tenant in Milwaukie last week has been cleared by a grand jury, which chose not bring charges.

Gerald Miller, 66, had claimed that he killed 53-year-old Ricky Pineda McKowen in self-defense.

McKowen had lived in Miller's basement for three years but had not paid rent for the past year.

When Miller tried to evict him, McKowen became angry and threatened to kill him.

The grand jury heard from more than half a dozen people including at least one person who was home at the time of the shooting.
