Oregon City Man May Have Ingested Drugs During Chase Say Officers

Man is in the hospital after a high-speed chase.

A man from Oregon City is in the hospital after a high speed chase with sheriff's deputies during which he may have ingested drugs.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says it happened around 4:40 Thursday morning.

Deputies tried to stop a 1997 Honda Accord that had switched plates with a 1992 Toyota Camry.

The Accord took off, leading deputies on a 12-minute chase that reached speeds of 75 miles-per-hour.

The car finally stopped and deputies arrested James Williams of Oregon City.

As he was being taken into custody, "he began sweating profusely and began to convulse." according to the sheriff's office.

He was brought to St. Vincent's where he is in the intensive care unit.

Officers believe he ingested drugs before his arrest.

Williams is charged with possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, and a felony warrant for a parole violation.
