Oregon City Photo Contest: Deadline is May 21

City officials invite residents and visitors to submit photos for the contest, with the winners announced June 5.

OREGON CITY, OR – While Oregon City has a great deal of history to admire, city officials are interested in seeing what the future has in store.

To help focus the city’s vision, residents and visitors are invited to participate in the city’s 2017 photo contest, sharing what they believe makes Oregon City great.

“We’d like to see how citizens are interpreting their vision of the city’s future,” said Jaime Reed, assistant city recorder. “We want to see the city through the community’s eyes.”

All contest photos must be taken from within the city limits.

The city has held photo contests in the past, fittingly themed around historical preservation exclusively, but this year officials wanted to change things up.

Along with its requisite “History” theme, other themes include “This Place Matters,” “Future,” and “Natural Wonders.”

The change in options, Reed told Patch Tuesday, was intended to make the event more fun and open it up to a wider range of prospective contestants.

“We encourage everyone to participate,” Reed said, noting that photo submissions will be accepted from anyone, not just Oregon City residents alone. “And phone entries are welcomed.”

Winners from last year’s Discover Oregon City’s Hidden Gems photo contest included Erin Skinner, Oregon City High School student Jessica Yambra, and 5-year-old Delaney Murphy.

All entries must be sent in by 12 a.m. Sunday, May 21, with the winning submissions announced June 5.

Contest rules, details, and submission forms are available on the city website.
