Oregon City Spent More than $50,000 Fighting Petition Initiative
The bills are still coming in from the city's efforts to block an anti-urban renewal petition from the ballot.
Oregon City has spent tens of thousands of dollars to prevent an anti-urban renewal ballot from appearing on the ballot in November.
The disclosure came in documents turned over to The Oregon City News after a freedom of information request.
The paper reports that the total through March was more than $50,000 and that is expected to increase since lawyers for the city were in court in April.

While the city was unsuccessful in fighting the effort, the initiative has not yet been submitted for consideration. That is expected to happen in June.
The initiative would mandate the urban renewal agency pay off its debt and dissolve itself.
