"We will not retreat," Governor Kate Brown says, signing executive order doubling down on state's sanctuary status.

"We will not retreat," Governor Kate Brown said as she signed an executive order directing the state to take several steps to challenge President Trump's recent executive order limiting the ability of people from seven predominantly Muslim countries to visit the United States.
"These new policies from the White House show no regard for the values Oregonians believe in or the economic realities Oregon faces."
Brown directed state Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum to explore legal options to challenge the order.

She also signed an executive order that expands to all state agencies a 1987 law instructing law enforcement agencies from treating undocumented people as criminals.
"I want to make sure that all of our agencies understand that folks will not be targeted based on their immigration status," she said.

The executive order also prevents agencies from using state resources to create a registry based on religion.
"We have heard threats of a Muslim registry at the federal level," Brown said. "I don't know how sincere these threats are, but I want to be absolutely clear. We will not participate.
"I want to make sure that all of our agencies understand that folks will not be targeted based on their immigration status,."
if Oregon goes go to court it will be following in the steps of several states, including Washington, which was the first in court to challenge the order. New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Minnesota have also filed challenges.
