Scam Alert: Sheriff's Office Sends Out Warning on Warrant Scam

Callers receiving warnings from a Lt. Mark Anderson. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says just hang up.

If you get a call from a Lt. Mark Anderson from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and he says there is a warrant for your arrest because you missed jury duty - just hang up.

Yes, he will tell you that you could just pay a fine - in cash - and everything okay. But - it won't.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says that they do not employ anyone named Mark Anderson. They add that that is not the way they operate. Plain and simple.

It is a scam.

And several people in Clackamas County have reported getting the call.

The sheriff's office says that if a scammer calls you, identifies as a law-enforcement official, says you're wanted for missing jury duty, and tries to extract a "fine" or any other financial penalty, hang up.

Then contact the sheriff's Office to report the call (with the scam caller's phone number) ASAP using the non-emergency line: (503) 655-8211.

They add that suspects involved in this type of scam often prey on the most vulnerable citizens and the elderly.

"This may be a good time to check with those in our lives who are vulnerable and remind them to remain vigilant," the sheriff's office says.
