West Linn Man Threatens To Kill His Mother; Police Intervene

A 911 caller in West Linn reportedly heard an argument and called police, possibly preventing a fatally violent crime.

WEST LINN, OR — Police on Thursday arrested a man who assaulted and threatened to kill his own mother, according to West Linn officials.

Tyler Edward Kern, 30, was taken to the Clackamas County Jail on charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, assault, and strangulation. He is being held on $45,000 bail.

According to police, a 911 caller reported hearing an argument shortly after 4:30 p.m. May 18 at a home in the 6200-block of Preakness Way in West Linn. The caller told dispatchers they'd heard a woman say, "What are you going to do, shoot me?" and a man respond, "I'm not going to jail."

When officers arrived, they reportedly learned Kern was armed with a handgun inside the home. After a brief dialogue, Kern allowed his mother to leave. An hour later he voluntarily surrendered himself to police.

After Kern's arrest, police learned he had assaulted his mother, pointed a gun at her, and threatened to kill her, police said. Kern also reportedly fired a round into the home's ceiling.
