Abused Pit Bull Arrives In Portland; Seeks New, Loving Oregon Family
Amber the 60-pound Pit Bull mix was badly burned in April by her previous owner. Following her recovery, she's in search of a new home.

PORTLAND, OR — The Oregon Humane Society on Thursday received a new temporary tenant: Amber, the two-year-old pit bull mix who was severely burned in April when her previous owner doused her in gasoline and purposefully set her alight.
The burning required parts of both Amber's ears to be amputated, yet she remains loving, affectionate, and excited to be around people, according to OHS officials, who shared Amber's story and adoption notice on the Oregon Humane Society Facebook page.
"We're happy to say yes to Amber, and are very confident we'll find a loving family to give her a fresh start in life," OHS President and CEO Sharon Harmon said in a statement Thursday. (Sign up for free daily newsletters and Breaking News Alerts from Portland Patch.)

Amber was transferred to Portland from the Siskiyou Humane Society in Mt. Shasta, Calif., officials said, noting that her previous owner — who lived in Yreka, Calif. — pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and has since been entered into mental health treatment.

Amber, a 60-pound dog, will be available for adoption within the next few days, officials said. But if you're interested, you'll need to get in line because "a great deal of interest" has already been expressed from prospective adopters, officials said.
