Accused Carjacker Due in Court Monday

Israel Joseph Perez is charged with robbery and attempted assault. More charges are expected.

A man that Portland Police say is responsible for a violent crime spree is due to make his first appearance in court Monday. Forty-two-year-old Israel Joseph Perez, who faces charges of robbery and attempted assault, was arrested early Saturday morning.

Police say that Perez is responsible for three carjackings on Friday - at 6:48 p.m. at the Taco Bell at 2079 West Burnside, a little later at the Stadium Fred Meyer on West Burnside, and then a taxi in downtown Portland.

At 10:00 p.m. police responded to the Jantzen Beach Target after reports that a man - later identified as Perez - was swinging a mini sledgehammer at people.
