After Landslide, West Burnside Road Reopened March 24

The roadway was closed after a large landslide March 15. It has since been cleared and repaved.

PORTLAND, OR – After being closed for nine days West Burnside Road has been reopened, Portland Bureau of Transportation officials announced Friday, March 24.

The road was closed March 15 after a large landslide made the roadway impassable.

Working 14-hour days, transportation crews removed more than 1,300 cubic yards of debris last week, officials said, but kept the road closed to repair damages and repave the street.

"Our crews never cease to amaze me with their dedication to the public," said Leah Treat, director of PBOT. "Many of the same people who drove snow plows for 12 hours a day this winter have continued to work extraordinary shifts to make the most of the handful of dry days we have had this spring. As we did on West Burnside, we will continue to work strategically, as long as the weather cooperates, to fill the backlog of potholes that have been frustrating Portlanders across the city."
