Northwest Container Services to halt Portland, Seattle operations (capitalpress.com) — Northwest Container Services is abruptly shutting down its Portland terminal, cutting off a key truck-to-rail link that local farm exporters have relied on for decades to reach Puget Sound ports. Truck operations already stopped on Aug. 21, new containers won't be accepted after Aug. 28, and all existing containers must be cleared from the Portland site by Sept. 15.
   

2. Hazelwood fatal stabbing leads to murder charge, after outer East Portland arrest « East PDX News (eastpdxnews.com) — A pre-dawn stabbing in a Hazelwood parking lot off SE Pine Street near 102nd Avenue left 38-year-old Portland resident Washington Toe dead and turned a quiet outer East Portland block into a homicide scene. Police quickly detained a suspect nearby, later booking 32-year-old Patrick Nshizirungu on murder and weapon charges, and are asking anyone with information to contact PPB homicide detectives.
   

3. Cougar still at large after being spotted in Northeast Portland neighborhood (koin.com) — An injured cougar is currently on the loose after being spotted in a Northeast Portland neighborhood near NE 164th Avenue, and authorities are urging anyone who sees it to call 911 immediately. Gresham police first located the animal with drones before Oregon State Police took over, noting the cougar appears to have an injured hind leg. Residents in East Portland and nearby areas are advised to stay alert and keep pets and children close.
   

4. Report: Portland ranks in top 10 for best flight deals (kgw.com) — If you fly out of Portland International Airport, you're in one of the nation's top 10 cities for domestic flight deals, with average round-trip fares around $226. A new analysis from travel company Going explains how airline competition, or lack of it at PDX, shapes how often Portlanders see real bargains.
   

5. Portland man sues Kaiser Permanente for $534M, alleging missed diagnosis led to amputations (katu.com) — A Portland resident has filed a massive medical malpractice lawsuit seeking hundreds of millions of dollars from Kaiser Permanente, alleging a missed heart diagnosis led to cardiac arrest and the amputation of both legs. Filed by a Portland attorney, the complaint details ongoing medical complications, lost income, and substantial future care costs, while Kaiser has been asked for comment.
