Serial burglar who broke into 4 North Portland apartment buildings pleads guilty (kgw.com subscription) — A man who broke into multiple Portland apartment and condo buildings has been sentenced to just over four years in prison after pleading guilty to several burglary charges. Prosecutors say he targeted buildings in Northwest and Southeast Portland, stealing tools, bikes and packages, and was caught through surveillance video and a county burglary task force investigation.
2. 3 arrested after 2025 deadly shooting in Portland (koin.com) — Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the November 2025 killing of Robert Mathis in North Portland, including a Portland resident charged with second-degree murder. Investigators say months of detective work led to the recent arrests, bringing a measure of closure for Mathis' family and the wider community after the fatal shooting near North Whitaker Road.
3. Man who tried to smuggle guns from Portland to Mexico sentenced (koin.com) — A Portland man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for conspiring to traffic a dozen guns from Portland to Mexico, with investigators believing the weapons were meant for cartels. Authorities say the group hoped to trade the firearms for illegal drugs to sell in Oregon, but California officers intercepted the courier's vehicle and seized the hidden guns.
4. The kid from Portland turns Oregon Outdoor School memories into a New Balance sneaker: 'True Oregonian membership card' (kgw.com) — Portland rapper Aminé is turning his memories of Oregon's Outdoor School and Portland childhood into a new "Outdoor School" New Balance sneaker releasing October 2. The design nods to local traditions like wood cookies and past Portland landmarks he's honored, even as Outdoor School programs across Oregon face funding cuts and shorter sessions.
5. 'Officers put me on the floor, broke my teeth': Deportation of Palestinian Vancouver resident delayed (opb.org) — A longtime Portland and Vancouver resident, Palestinian national Tareq Zakarneh, has had his deportation to the West Bank delayed after he says ICE officers injured him when he refused to board a flight. He first came to Portland to attend Portland State University and has since lost his legal status, while Portland for Palestine and local officials face mounting pressure from advocates to intervene.
