Metro Council Grants PP&R Second Award For Waterfront Park Redesign, Planning Work (portland.gov) — Portland's Waterfront Park redesign just received another $750,000 Metro Council grant, pushing forward planning, design, and community engagement for the 30-acre riverfront space. Over the next year, three international design teams will develop concepts to improve river access, year-round use, and downtown connections, with public exhibitions and feedback opportunities planned in Portland before a winner is chosen in 2027.
2. Hundreds of dead fish found in Portland creek, prompting DEQ investigation (kgw.com) — Hundreds of fish and other wildlife have been found dead in Johnson Creek in Southeast Portland, and state environmental officials are now investigating what caused the unusual die-off. Volunteers first discovered the carcasses and foaming water during a beaver survey, and DEQ has since returned multiple times for testing while urging residents to quickly report any strange conditions they see along local waterways.
3. Motorcyclist dies in crash with car in SE Portland on Division Street (kptv.com) — A motorcyclist died Friday evening after a collision with a car on Southeast Division Street near 174th Avenue in Southeast Portland, and police have closed the roadway between 174th and 175th Place during their investigation. The other driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating, and officers are asking anyone with information to contact the Traffic Investigations Unit with the listed case number.
4. 'Deeply upsetting': 60 urns containing human remains are missing after Portland couple allegedly took them for drug money (newsbreak.com) — Families with loved ones at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial are being told that about 60 urns are missing after a Portland couple allegedly stole them from the mausoleum and sold the metal. Police say one suspect is in custody, the investigation is ongoing, and the funeral home plans to contact affected families once authorities determine exactly whose remains were taken.
5. Limited Run Games confirms it'll spend next weekend at Portland Retro Gaming Expo (gaming-age.com) — Portland gamers can look forward to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo at the Oregon Convention Center from October 9–11, where Limited Run Games will exhibit. Expect playable demos, exclusive physical editions, and special variant covers for Nintendo Switch and PS5 releases, all geared toward collectors and retro fans in town.
