Another Victory For Ammon Bundy's Lawyers as Bar Association Dismisses Complaint

"We are glad...but not surprised," says attorney Mike Arnold.

The Oregon State Bar Association has rejected another complaint against the lawyers for Ammon Bundy, one of more than two dozen people charged in connection with the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis had filed a complaint arguing that Mike Arnold and Lissa Cassey had made prejudicial comments outside of court that could affect the case,

The bar association disagreed.

"We have a right to defend our clients against the full weight of the government, and sometimes that requires us to state things publicly -- especially when a legal matter becomes a matter of public interest," Arnold said in a statement.

"We hope that other defense lawyers will do their duty in the modern 24/7 news cycle and, when justice demands it, advocate for their clients publicly."

Marquis has indicated he will appeal the decision.

Earlier this month, the bar association cleared Arnold and Cassey of wrongdoing in two other complaints.

There is still two others pending against the lawyers.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Arnold indicated that his client is considering filing a civil rights complaint against Multnomah County regarding the conditions in which he is being kept.
