Aviation Company at PDX Laying Off 186 People
Company that provides services to Alaska Airlines notified the state that layoffs will happen in mid-October.

Menzies Aviation, the company that provides ground handling services for Alaska Airlines at Portland International Airport, will no longer be providing that service as of mid-October. As a result, they are laying off 186 people.
The announcement came in a letter to the Oregon Employment Department.
Most of the employees - 89 - are ramp agents while others are administrative assistants, cabin cleaners, and supervisors.

The company says they provide ground handling services - ramp and cabin cleaner positions - and that those jobs will be eliminated as of 2:00 a.m. on October 19, 2016.
In the letter, the company thanks the employees for their "valuable service" and wishes them "the best in the future."
