Best Hospitals In Oregon: U.S. News and World Report's New Rankings
The 2016 rankings are out. Hospitals were graded according to 16 specialties.

U.S. News and World Report on Tuesday released its list of the best hospitals in the country. The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota topped the publication's rankings, which looked at how each hospital performs across different specialties, procedures and conditions.
The Mayo Clinic was followed by the Cleveland Clinic, with Massachusetts General hospital rounding out the top three overall.
Hospitals that scored high in certain categories were compiled into a top-line ranking called the "Honor Roll," made up of the top 20 hospitals in the country. Here are those top 20 hospitals nationally, according to U.S. News and World Report.

As for Oregon, U.S. News and World Report examined the state's nearly 70 hospitals, and of those only 10 met the agency's standards for ranking. The final list of Oregon's top hospitals are mostly near the Portland metro area.

- (1) Oregon Health and Science University Hospital, Portland
- (2) Providence Portland Medical Center, Portland
- (3) Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland
- (4) Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center, Clackamas
- (5) Salem Hospital, Salem
- (6) Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, Medford
- (7) St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, Bend
- (tied for 8) Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and Health Center, Portland
- (tied for 8) Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, Tualatin
- (tied for 8) PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, Springfield
The agency also released this list of the top 5 hospitals in the Portland area:
- (1) Oregon Health and Science University Hospital
- (2) Providence Portland Medical Center
- (3) Providence St. Vincent Medical Center
- (4)Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center
- (tied for 5) Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and Health Center
- (tied for 5) Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center
To compile the rankings, U.S. News and World Report used several different objective measurements such as patient survival, number of patients and staffing numbers. The publication also used survey data from qualified physicians, who were asked to name the top five hospitals in their specialty.

In all, 153 hospitals made the rankings in at least one specialty.
