Bones Found Near River View Cemetery Sparks Homicide Investigation, Portland Police say

Hikers found what police said look like human bones off a trail in the River View Natural Area, south of the cemetery, Sunday afternoon.

PORTLAND, OR – Bones found off a trail near River View Cemetery in Southwest Portland has spurred a homicide investigation, Portland police said Sunday.

Hikers in the River View Natural Area, just south of the cemetery on Southwest Macadam Ave, found the bones shortly after 2:30 p.m. April 16, police said. Because the bones reportedly appear to be human, police are conducting a death investigation with the help of homicide detectives, criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division, and the Oregon State Medical Examiner.

Police closed the trail temporarily to conduct an investigation.
